Just go back to sleep
And let the dream fade into oblivion
Like a candle snuffed out
The gray black smoke dissipates
And only a whisper of the scent remains
Until you wonder if you ever burned the candle at all
And what was the dream?
Snatches of it come back to you
A song
A conversation
A familiar face, someone you know
but now cannot recall
Someone you spoke with
And laughed with
A friend
A strange encounter
Were you in the ocean?
There was an octopus
but now…
now there is nothing at all
And you go back to a listless slumber
Never to dream at all
